28 July 2022

The inaugural CareerQuip 2022 marked a transformative moment for the Mid Coast community, opening its gates on Thursday 28 July to over 2000 students and members of the public. CareerQuip 2022 set out to redefine the traditional careers expo by creating an immersive, community-focused experience that extended far beyond the classroom.

Spanning multiple venues, including Fotheringham Park, Taree University Campus and the old Mid Coast Council building, the event embraced its surroundings to deliver a vibrant and dynamic program. A highlight of the day was the Welcome to Country by Uncle Russ Saunders, followed by a mesmerising performance from local Aboriginal school dancers, grounding the event in cultural respect and community pride.

Integrating students

What made CareerQuip 2022 truly exceptional was its integration of students into the event itself. From hospitality students serving food to volunteers assisting with event management, and even musical performances by MVAC students, the day showcased the depth of talent and engagement within the Mid Coast’s youth. Glen Bowman, Careers Advisor at Taree High, aptly described it as a “truly integrated learning experience.”

With 90 exhibitors, ranging from universities and vocational colleges to the Australian Defence Forces and NSW Police, the expo offered something for everyone. Interactive displays and hands-on activities brought future career possibilities to life.

a broad scope for bright futures

The event wasn’t just for students—it was a space for parents, job seekers, and local businesses to connect. A well-attended evening information session by UAC allowed families to explore career pathways together, and local employers found an invaluable platform to address skills shortages and discover new talent.

CareerQuip 2022 laid the foundation for an annual event that continues to empower the Mid Coast region by fostering connections, sparking aspirations, and showcasing the wealth of career opportunities available locally. It was more than an expo—it was a celebration of potential, community, and a shared vision for a brighter future.
